The Tennessee Volunteers pitching staff brought some special stuff on Friday night, tossing a no-hitter against St. Bonaventure. It’s the first since 2002, and just the ninth in program history. Here’s the video of the final out, as the Volunteers cruised to a 12-0 blowout victory.

It’s also the fourth combined no hitter in Tennessee baseball history. Liam Doyle, Tanner Franklin, Brandon Arvidson, Brayden May, and Michael Sharman all combined for a no-hitter for the Volunteers.

Liam Doyle led Tennessee with 13 strikeouts, allowing just two walks and two base runners in 5.2 innings of work. The hard throwing lefty retired 17 straight batters on Friday night between the walks. His 13 strikeouts against the Bonnies helps to bring his season strikeout total to 47.

Friday night’s impressive accomplishment is yet another testament to the Tennessee pitching staff this season. They had a 2.06 ERA entering the St. Bonaventure series and have only allowed over four runs in one game this year. Their team ERA is now 1.89.

Tennessee also features some of the best hitting power of any team in America. They proved it yet again on Friday night, hitting four home runs and seven total extra base hits in scoring 12 runs against the Bonnies. Sluggers Gavin Kilen and Cannon Peebles led the way with three RBIs. Andrew Fischer and Dalton Bargo chipped in two RBIs each in the blowout.

The Volunteers are looking like one of the most dominant teams in college baseball and their first 22 days of the year have been impressive. They’ve won six games, two games against quality power four opponents, and even hit three grand slams in a single game.

The Volunteers climbed to No. 1 in the Top 25 polls this week and after looking at the way they’ve started the season, it’s easy to see why. They currently sit at 14-0, and they’re one of four teams in college baseball that currently remains undefeated: Alabama (15-0), Florida State (14-0), and West Virginia (13-0).

Tennessee will look to clinch the St. Bonaventure series on Saturday at 6 PM EST at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Sunday’s game will be at 1:00 PM EST.
