Texas A&M running back and wide receiver Ainias Smith suffered an injury to his right leg that kept him down for a long time before exiting the game. While blocking on a routine play, an Arkansas defender made a tackle behind him and rolled into Smith’s legs. Replay showed the defender’s body pin Smith’s right leg to the ground at an awkward angle, before Smith remained down on the field and needed trainers.

Smith is one of the most explosive players on the Aggies offense, and had a huge catch for 32 yards on a 2nd-and-30 play earlier in the game that showed his ability to gain yards.

Smith battled an injury during the preseason that highlighted his ability to see the positives in rough situations, as a hand injury kept him from using his right hand. Not giving up on developing as a player during his injury recovery, Smith practiced catching passes with his left hand — finding the injury as a chance to work on other parts of his game.

Despite his optimism and ability to work hard through adversity, Aggies fans certainly hope that Smith didn’t suffer an injury that will make him miss extended time this season.

Ainias Smith emotional speaking with father following injury

Shortly after entering the injury tent and being looked at by the team’s trainers, Smith exited the tent with crutches and a walking boot over his right ankle.

The ESPN broadcast shared additional details of the injury as they showed Smith on the sideline with a towel covering his head and speaking with his father.

“It’s a pretty emotional scene on the Texas A&M sideline, unfortunately. Ainias was able to come out of the tent, he’s got a boot on that right ankle. He’s on crutches. He made his way behind the bench to an embrace by his father. His father, visibly emotional, they were forehead to forehead as they embraced. Obviously so upset by the injury, it seems to be pretty serious.”
