Texas A&M stunned LSU on Saturday, winning 38-23 to knock off the nation’s No. 5 team and end their College Football Playoff hopes. After the game, coach Jimbo Fisher explained how Texas A&M was able to do it.

Spoiler: nothing fancy.

“That’s what I was saying, it’s young guys and growing and developing,” Fisher said in his postgame press conference. “It’s there. It’s what I said, it’s going to be there. There’s nothing wrong with what we’re doing, it’s how we’ve got to do it and how we’ve got to get the maturity out of them and what happens and execute what we’ve got.

“Our kids just relaxed and played and they grew up and they matured. There’s a lot of injuries and young guys all year. That’s not an excuse, but that’s the facts of life.”

The Aggies were definitely plagued by injuries throughout the season. The team had to start six different combinations on the offensive line during the year as multiple starters dealt with injuries.

Texas A&M also played three different starting quarterbacks, going from Haynes King to Max Johnson, back to King, then to Conner Weigman, back to King, and then finally back to Weigman.

That’s a lot of changes for a team to deal with.

Jimbo Fisher explained how Texas A&M was just streaky

The biggest thing you typically see with teams that juggle their starting lineups frequently? Inconsistency.

That’s essentially how Fisher explained how Texas A&M was able to top LSU. Things happened to click on that night. Just like they did in pushing Alabama to the absolute brink earlier in the season.

“You see it, they could do it in streaks, couldn’t do it at whole times,” Fisher said. “This game we finally put it together for 60 minutes and played a really good game.

“It’s that simple. Period.”

Texas A&M finished the season 5-7. Suffice it to say Fisher and the Aggies will have to do a significantly better job becoming more consistent going forward if the partnership is going to last long-term.
