Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M needed a win in the worst way last weekend, and they got one over a ranked Miami squad.

Afterwards, Fisher was proud of his defense, including their prowess in the redzone. The Aggies leader explained how when the ball gets near the end-zone, it separates the men from the boys.

“They ran the ball well in the field. I mean, it condenses. Your safeties are down. It’s tighter, quicker, faster. That’s just the way the redzone is,” Fisher said. “It’s a hard — people act like you just go down there and run the ball. You don’t do anything different. All the bodies, there’s nowhere to go. So they’re all just stuck in there together. I mean, it becomes a lot more physical. A lot more tougher to run the football.

“That’s grown man ball when it does that.”

Jimbo Fisher will want some more grown man ball from Texas A&M on Saturday, as the Aggies take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in what should be a wild SEC showdown.

Jimbo Fisher explains how win over Miami helped Texas A&M get back on track

Moreover, Jimbo Fisher believes a ranked Miami squad couldn’t have come to College Station at a better time.

Reeling after a loss to Appalachian State, the Aggies needed a victory badly. Speaking with Marty Smith during a segment on College GameDay, Fisher explained how the victory over the Hurricanes helped Texas A&M get back on track.

“We were blessed last week to have Miami as an opponent,” stated Fisher. “I mean, to have a high-quality opponent right after that situation. … You find out who you are. And we’re blessed again to have one that’s higher ranked again this week.

“Because the challenge this week — fear everything and run, face everything and rise. Which one you going to be?”

Still, championships are the expectation for Fisher at Texas A&M, and he believes the Aggies are on their way.

“We haven’t gotten there,” Fisher responded, when asked about his lofty goals for his Texas A&M tenure. “Two years ago, I think we were one of the top two teams in the country in 2020. I believe that wholeheartedly, and I still do today. But at the same time, we haven’t met those goals. We have to meet those goals, and I think we’re on track to get to those goals. Sometimes greatness takes longer, but I think we’re right in track.

“The expectations are high, we think the culture is very good, we’re just continuing to build it and grow it. It’s going to be a championship culture.”

On Saturday, Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M will look to keep the ship moving in the right direction against Arkansas. It’s a huge game for the Aggies, and the SEC as a whole for the remainder of the 2022 season.
