Being a locker room leader isn’t just based on how you perform on Saturdays. That’s the case for Texas A&M junior edge rusher Fadil Diggs, who rarely sees time on the field, but does everything exactly the way head coach Jimbo Fisher asks of him every time, without fail.

“Really, a very good leader,” Fisher said of Diggs. “He is a guy who works, says, ‘yes sir, no sir, what else can I do?’ And always helping those young guys, you know, he’s a great example for them as far as how to go about your business on a daily basis as far as work ethic, technique, toughness, battle through things, I think he’s doing an excellent job.

“And I’ve said it, I know he is definitely a great example for how you want to play. That effort you want to play with, the physicality you want to play with, becoming a better technician, how he’s being productive and he is a he’s there every day. I can’t say enough great things to say about him.”

Through two seasons in College Station, Diggs has appeared in five total games, totaling 11 tackles and one sack as a reserve on the defensive line.

That type of production isn’t exactly what Diggs believed would have accomplished up to this point in his career. Coming out of high school, Diggs was a highly-touted consensus four-star recruit before choosing Texas A&M over the likes of Penn State and Florida, among others. He was rated the No. 10 EDGE in the Class of 2020, per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Fast forward to year three – and Diggs is the expected staring defensive end for the Aggies in 2022 alongside fellow EDGE Tunmise Adeleye. Though, true freshman Anthony Lucas and Lebbeus Overton have all made a case for why they deserve a spot in the regular rotation as well.

Whether Diggs cracks the starting lineup or not remains to be seen, but is expected to see a significant boost in his production early and often during the 2022 season. His first opportunity to showcase his skills comes Sept. 3 when Texas A&M battles Sam Houston to kick off the season.
