Virginia Tech guard Tyrece Radford posted on Twitter on Wednesday that he will transfer to Texas A&M. Buzz Williams, now the coach of the Aggies, recruited Radford to Virginia Tech.

He averaged he averaged 12.2 points per game and 5.9 rebunds per game this past season with the Hokies.

“I want to say thank you to Virginia Tech for allowing me to be a part of this family,” Radford said in his statement. “I am extremely grateful for my time here. Thank you to the coaching staff, my teammates, my adviser Alise and the entire Hokie nation. I am proud to be a member of this community and to have earned my degree while in Blacksburg.

“After discussions with my family and closest mentors, I have decided to pursue my dreams by transferring to Texas A&M and finishing what I started three years ago. Go Hokies and Go Aggies!”

Radford never actually got the chance to play for Williams at Virginia Tech. He redshirted in the 2018-19 season and Williams left for College Station the year after.

The coach spent five seasons in charge of the Hokies. They missed the NCAA Tournament in his first two seasons but made it each of his final three years. Texas A&M also missed the NCAA Tournament in Williams’ first two seasons.

The Aggies lose leading scorer Emmnauel Miller, who transferred to TCU this offseason. Fellow forward Savion Flagg also transferred. A&M will be extremely guard-heavy in 2021. In addition to Radford, the Aggies also return guards Quenton Jackson and Andre Gordon.

Tyrece Radord is the fourth transfer Texas A&M has landed this offseason. Williams also convinced center Javonte Brown-Ferguson (Connecticut), as well as forwards Henry Coleman (Duke) and Ethan Henderson (Arkansas) to join the team.

Coleman is a former 4-star prospect that played only five minutes per game for the Blue Devils this past season. Henderson brings experience after spending the past three seasons with the Razorbacks.

It’s unclear exactly how many transfer players will crack the rotation for Texas A&M in 2021, but Tyrece Radford is sure to be one of them.
