Targeting and how it is addressed and penalized continue to remain a controversial topic in the college football landscape. On Saturday, Texas A&M safety Demani Richardson was ejected for a perfectly clean hit against the Miami Hurricanes, when he leveled ‘Canes receiver Michael Redding III. It was the second targeting penalty in the first quarter for the Aggies and it was a game-changer, since Richardson was ejected. Late on Saturday night, Richardson voiced his displeasure at the penalty on Twitter and called out the refs.

Texas A&M won Saturday’s game against Miami 17-9. The good news for Texas A&M fans and Richardson, is that since he was ejected in the first half of the game, he won’t have to miss any of their upcoming game against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Richardson wasn’t the only player to get ejected for targeting

Texas A&M saw another defender get ejected for targeting in the first quarter against Miami. First, it was Brian George, then it was Demani Richardson.

Richardson leveled a huge hit against Miami wide receiver Michael Redding III in the first quarter and, upon review, was ejected. It was the latest hit to the Texas A&M defense, which saw multiple players suspended for a violation of team rules earlier Saturday.

Richardson is looking to play a key role for the Aggies this year, and put up some decent numbers through two games. He has 11 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss so far this year, but he’ll miss the rest of the game against Miami after racking up three tackles in the first quarter.

George was ejected for targeting on the previous drive, meaning the Aggies were down two defenders for most of the game.

Texas A&M defensive back Brian George ejected for targeting vs Miami

Texas A&M’s defense was doing work against Miami to start the game Saturday night. But then, the Aggies lost one of their defenders after a targeting penalty.

Brian George was ejected in the first quarter after a big hit on Miami running back Henry Parrish on the first play of the drive. Texas A&M had just scored a touchdown to take a 10-3 lead when the foul occurred.

It was George’s second appearance for the Aggies this season after seeing game action against Sam Houston State. In that game, he had one tackle and one pass defended.

Texas A&M was trying to bounce back from a rough loss to Appalachian State last week at Kyle Field. The Aggies were already shorthanded against Miami with multiple players out due to a violation of team rules.
