Texas A&M keeps 4-star CB Cobey Sellers home
Cobey Sellers was on the verge of committing to Oklahoma. The four-star cornerback out of Pearland (Texas) Shadow was one of the first recruits Mike Elko checked on after taking over at Texas A&M and after giving the new staff a chance, Sellers decided to stay home.
“For the longest time, I felt like Oklahoma was the right fit for me,” Sellers told On3. “Texas A&M came in, showed me love, I took a couple of visits and decided they were best for me. I made my final decision about three weeks ago.
“Texas A&M is four hours closer to home. That and how the coaches showed consistency were big. I like what the coaches do with cornerbacks too.”
Elko and Jordan Peterson have a history with defensive backs and the pair helped the Aggies land a commitment from the No. 165 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.
“Coach Elko coaches Kyle Hamilton at Notre Dame. He and Coach Peterson know how to coach and develop defensive backs. Coach Peterson offered me last summer and recruited me when he was at Kansas. We had a great relationship, so as soon as he moved to A&M, I gave them a chance and knowing he and Coach Elko can coach guys at my position factored into my decision.”

Sellers wanted to play in front of his family
Sellers is the 11th commitment this cycle for Texas A&M. He visited twice this spring and he is excited about where the in-state program is headed.
“Before I got on campus with the new staff, I was feeling A&M because of my connection with Coach Peterson, but after seeing how the team improved in its five weeks of spring practice, that made a big impact.
“When I went up there, it just solidified everything for me. They showed me they really wanted me. I like Coach Peterson, Coach Jay Bateman and Coach Elko as coaches too. How they coach is the way I want to be coached in college.
“Then I get to go to school just an hour and 45 minutes away from home. It will be great to play in front of my family and be able to stay home. I get to play for a great coach who is about business. with players that are going to listen to the coaching staff.”
