Texas A&M struggled offensively on the road against Auburn on Saturday, only putting 10 points on the Jordan-Hare Stadium scoreboard. Having a true freshman quarterback in Conner Weigman make his first road start in the SEC was not ideal but not having one of the team’s top wide receivers, Moose Muhammad, certainly did not help.

Muhammad was “benched” by head coach Jimbo Fisher, with jersey sleeves being cited as the reason. Fisher addressed the matter during his Monday press conference heading into the UMass matchup. As usual, not much was given up, calling the situation “an internal issue.”

“That was an internal issue in which we handled,” Fisher said. “We addressed it, we all talked. Moving on.”

When later asked if Muhammad would be available this week against UMass, Fisher said “yes.”

Fisher was also asked about the four freshmen who were suspended earlier in the year, as the Texas A&M head coach continues to keep them off the field. They will not play against the Minutemen.

Muhammad is the second leading receiver on Texas A&M’s roster this season, only sitting behind former Five-Star Plus+ prospect, Evan Stewart. He has caught 30 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns. Stewart left the game against the Tigers as well, meaning Weigman was without his top two guys for parts of the contest.

With things all cleared up now, Muhammad will be back in the wide receiver rotation. Going up against a poor FCS team, Texas A&M has an excellent chance to finally end their dreaded losing streak.

Moose Muhammad “benched” against Auburn

Muhammed didn’t play a single snap in Saturday’s 13-10 loss to Auburn. The Texas A&M wide receiver was healthy and came into the game as the Aggies’ second-leading receiver.

Muhammed took to Twitter in the early hours of Sunday morning following the Texas A&M loss to express his disappointment in the decision not to play him.

“I want to clear the air,” Muhammed’s tweet read. “I was benched for wearing arm sleeves—something that my teammates and opponents wear frequently for protection. I apologize to my teammates and fans and looking forward to getting back on the field. Much love!”

Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher declined to comment further on the matter postgame. “It was just an internal issue,” Fisher said.

According to Gigem 247, Fisher has a rule that does not permit position players to wear sleeves, and was ultimately the reason why he was kept out of the game.
