The Texas Longhorns aren’t done adding to their football roster ahead of the 2022 season, and a transfer portal target is coming in for an official visit beginning on Monday. James Madison transfer linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey revealed via his Twitter account on Monday that he will be on an official visit at Texas from Monday through Wednesday.

“We on the way,” Tucker-Dorsey tweeted.

Tucker-Dorsey would be a big-time pickup for Texas after he put up huge numbers in four years at James Madison. As a freshman in 2018, he played in 12 games but totaled just six tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. In 2019, he upped his production to 32 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. During the 2020 season in just eight games, Tucker-Dorsey had 51 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks with one pass defended.

This past season was by far Tucker-Dorsey’s best yet. In 14 games, he totaled 115 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions, eight passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

After his monster 2021 season, Tucker-Dorsey was named a First Team All-CAA linebacker and a Fourth Team FCS All-American by Phil Steele.

Tucker-Dorsey would be a big addition for Steve Sarkisian, Texas

Last season left a lot to be desired for Texas, as the Longhorns went 5-7 and failed to earn bowl eligibility. Improvement is expected in Year 2 under head coach Steve Sarkisian, and Vegas listed Texas with an over/under of 8.5 wins in 2022.

Sarkisian knows that he needs to win more games immediately, and adding Tucker-Dorsey to his defense could be a big move for Texas.

“Ultimately, we got to start winning some more games. … I’m not naive to that,” Sarkisian said. “But as far as just people tugging and pulling and moving in different directions, no. I felt like everybody is moving in a positive direction. That was something that I challenged our fan base to do, our donors to do, our administration to do, was trust the fact that you hired me to do a job.

“Let’s get on board and let’s all move in the same direction to make this thing special again.”
