Texas Longhorns’ senior forward Brock Cunningham is one of the best defenders on the team’s roster. The talented Texan recently broke out with a big-time performance against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on January 24th. Cunningham stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal in propelling the Longhorns to an 89-75 victory over the Cowboys. Following the breakout performance, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton offered high praise for the senior.

Mike Boynton shared his thoughts on Brock Cunningham

“Well, Brock is one of the more intelligent players I’ve ever coached against. I’ve seen the kid play for a long time since he was in high school. He’s always been kind of a cerebral player who can defend multiple positions, understands spacing on the floor, isn’t afraid to take big shots when his team needs it,” Boynton said.

“And obviously, he’s been around this program for a long time. He knows what it means of being from this city, putting that uniform on, the kind of pride that it takes to be successful. They (Texas) have a lot of length. They don’t have a lot of girth….but they’re just really, really good basketball players. Brock’s one of them,” Boynton said following the loss.

This season, Cunningham has stuffed the stat sheet with 4.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game, while shooting 50.8 percent from the field.

A native of Austin, Texas, Cunningham played his high school basketball for Westlake. His senior season there, he averaged 14.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. Cunnigham also led them to a 36-4 overall record and a trip to the Class 6A state semifinals his senior year. In the 2018 cycle, he was rated as the No. 28 power forward in America, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

Texas currently sits at 17-3 overall for the 2022-2023 college basketball season.
