The University of Texas’ new running backs coach commented on a video of running back Bijan Robinson making an incredible play, excited to work with him. Tashard Choice was named the new running backs coach for the Longhorns on Dec. 18, and the former NFL running back appears to be excited with the talent Robinson has displayed.

Robinson’s sophomore season with the Longhorns has been a fantastic one and Choice isn’t the only one to notice. Robinson rushed for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns on the year. Adding to his skillset, his emergence as a pass-catcher has helped make him a scoring threat in multiple ways. Robinson added another 295 yards receiving and four more touchdowns, for 15 total touchdowns on the season.

Under the direction of his new running backs coach, Robinson is likely to be a name coming up in Heisman discussions before the 2022 season. As the college football landscape changed dramatically with transfer portal activity, Robinson’s commitment to remain with Texas has made him a fan favorite.

Tashard Choice joined Texas’ coaching staff after initial rumors that he would be joining USC and Lincoln Riley’s staff. Instead, Steve Sarkisian found a guy that the Longhorns and Texas fans were excited to win over to their side.

Having began his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, Choice entered coaching after his NFL career. He became the running backs coach at his alma mater Georgia Tech before the 2019 season. Now, he’s the newest coach on Sarkisian’s staff.

“We’re thrilled to have Tashard joining our staff,” said Sarkisian in a release from the school. “He’s a high energy guy who brings a ton of passion and expertise to the job. Tashard absolutely checks all the boxes as a tremendous on-field coach, outstanding recruiter and as a guy that will be a great mentor and leader of men in our program. Not only has he done it at the highest level as a player, he’s put in the work as a coach and is really highly-regarded at that, too. The more I talked to him, the more I learned how deeply he cares about Texas, and his experience, knowledge and love for our great state is invaluable. I’m so excited to have him on board, looking forward to getting him started and fired up that he’s a part of our Longhorn family.”
