Quinn Ewers is back for Texas, with the redshirt freshman getting the start at quarterback on Saturday against Oklahoma. It’s a highly anticipated return for everyone in Austin, especially after impressing in the four-plus quarters he’s played in. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has his guy back and will be ready to unleash the Longhorns’ offensive power in full force.

Vegas has taken notice of Ewers’ return too. Since On3’s Inside Texas confirmed Pete Thamel’s original report, there has been a massive odds shift in favor of Texas. Now, the Longhorns are nearly double-digit favorites, sitting at -9.5 per VegasInsider.

Texas has been considered the favorite the entire week, opening at -4.5. The line slowly moved up in favor of the burnt orange side of the Cotton Bowl, rising all the way to seven. With the news of Ewers returning to the field, the 9.5-point line is the largest a Texas team has been favored in a Red River Showdown game since 2005.

Ewers has a small sample size of work in college but was impressive in Texas’ season opener and early against Alabama. He went 25-for-36 for 359 yards and two touchdowns across the two appearances, before suffering an injury on his non-throwing shoulder. Sarkisian said the entire quarterback room, not just Ewers, is as healthy as it’s been since the season began.

Hudson Card has been injured the past few weeks as well despite playing. He has been great in relief, helping Texas win two of the three games he started. While the plan is to move with Ewers rolling forward, Sarkisian knows the Austin native can be serviceable if called upon again.

But now, Quinn Ewers is back in the lineup for Texas, with people taking notice — Vegas included.
