Weird things can happen in Lubbock, especially when Texas is in town. Whether it’s the overall game, a crazy play, or decisions for the referees, Texas Tech always provides entertaining moments.

Now, with the Longhorns in town, the referees are already raising eyebrows. Late in the first quarter on a 2nd and 7 play, Texas Tech got a quick pass off just short of the first down marker… or so we thought. It was ruled a first down for the Red Raiders and continuing their long drive.

While Texas Tech would have still had the opportunity to pick up the first down on the next play, moving the chains is always a positive for a team. It eventually led to a touchdown for the Red Raiders, giving them a 14-10 lead.

You can watch the full play here.

We’re setting up to have a good one in Lubbock, even if there have been some questionable decisions from the refs. After at, Saturday afternoon might be the last time Texas ever plays at Jones AT&T Stadium — at least as a Big 12 opponent.

Xavier Worthy limps to sideline early vs. Texas Tech

Texas could not have asked for a better start to Saturday’s road game against Texas Tech. Keilan Robinson was able to score on a blown assignment, stumbling his way into the end zone to give the Longhorns a 7-0 lead. However, it’s the health of Xavier Worthy that’s a concern at the moment.

Right as the ESPN broadcast was moving from the previous game to Lubbock, Worthy was seen limping off the field during the opening drive. Trainers met him near the bench but before getting any more information, the cameras cut back onto the field for the action.

Reporters at Jones AT&T Stadium said Worthy was rolled up on before leaving the field. With Hudson Card once again starting at quarterback for Texas, losing a leading receiver would be significant for head coach Steve Sarkisian.

To begin Texas’ second drive of the game, Worthy was seen back on the field. For now, a crisis has been adverted for the Longhorns. Even so, it’s something to monitor moving forward. Injuries have been the story of the season on offense in Austin.
