Texas pulled off one of the biggest wins under interim head coach Rodney Terry a victory over top-10 ranked Kansas State.

But it wasn’t without its problems.

The Wildcats burst out in the first half and had the Longhorns on the ropes a little bit. They took a 36-25 lead into the half.

“I thought we guarded pretty decent in the first half,” Terry said after the game. “When we came in at halftime there were three areas that we really needed to try to address and get better with and we went right to the video with our turnovers. We had really bad turnovers in the first half. We knew coming into this ballgame here that we could not turn the ball over. We need to value taking care of the ball. We knew we had to keep these guys off the glass. We gave them some second chance opportunities. We sought offensive rebounds as well. Then we needed to move better. We didn’t do a great job. We kind of stood around a lot in the first half. We didn’t have good cuts. We missed some easy shots but we felt like a more efficient team than we showed in the first half.”

Rodney Terry said team settled in during the second half against Kansas State

Rodney Terry said the team did a much better job in the second half, which helped the team outscore by 14 points and win the game 69-66.

“I thought in the second half we settled in a little bit and we didn’t settle for some shots and we earned some baskets,” Terry said. “We really want to try to get to the paint against against these guys and we were able to get to the foul line I think 21 times which was huge for us. I think we had 11 free throws at the half which big for us.”
