Hudson Card will start under center for Texas Saturday, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced ahead of the Longhorn’s game at Texas Tech. The news comes after the game day depth chart was released with the quarterback position stating Card or Quinn Ewers.

Ewers, who suffered an SC sprain against Alabama, wasn’t expected to return was four to six weeks, but Saturday two weeks since the injury, and Ewers will be dressed on the sideline for the Longhorns. Card took over as the starter in his absence and threw for 161 yards and a touchdown last week against UTSA, and nearly led Texas to a victory over the then-No. 1 Crimson Tide.

Card will get the official start, but Ewers will be waiting in the wings to take over if anything goes wrong. Whether Ewers is 100 percent or not remains to be seen, but having the former Five-Star Plus+ quarterback on the sidelines is a good sign for the Longhorns season outlook heading into conference play.

Quinn Ewers listed as starter on Texas depth chart for Texas Tech game

Could Quinn Ewers be back already for Texas? The official depth chart suggests it could happen.

Texas listed Ewers or Hudson Card as the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Texas Techaccording to the depth chart. If he can play, it’d be quite a recovery for Ewers, who suffered an SC sprain during the Longhorns’ game against Alabama in Week 2.

The initial timeline for Ewers’ return was four to six weeks, but Saturday is two weeks since the injury. Card took over as the starter in his absence and threw for 161 yards and a touchdown last week against UTSA.

The depth chart is consistent with a report from College GameDay earlier Saturday. During the show, analyst Pat McAfee said he received a message from ESPN reporter Pete Thamel saying Ewers could be active for the game.
