Texas’ Bijan Robinson has been as good as it gets when it comes to running backs in college football. He’s been sensational on the ground and has been a big help in carrying the Longhorns to their 8-4 record this season. Still, there’s no guarantee that Robinson, one of the best players in the entire sport, will be in attendance at the Heisman Trophy ceremony on December 10th.

Steve Sarkisian made the case for Robinson’s Heisman candidacy during his press conference on Monday. He said the record of Robinson’s team should not be what holds back a statistical year like his from at least being a finalist.

“If we were 10-2 right now? And playing for a Big 12 Championship and maybe on the cusp of the College Football Playoff? I think there’d be no question this guy would be in New York for the Heisman,” Sarkisian said. “When you think about what he has accomplished?…(He’s got) staggering numbers for a guy that’s ‘Will he get in there or not?’. It’s crazy to think he’s not getting the recognition he deserves. That’s mind-blowing.”

Robinson has rushed for 1,580 yards during his junior campaign, which is good for fifth best in the nation. He tied with Michigan’s Blake Corum, another Heisman hopeful, with the third most rushing touchdowns on the season with 18. Robinson also has 314 receptions yards and two more touchdowns on just 19 catches all season. That means he has accounted for 20 scores overall this year, which is second in the country.

Robinson was by far the Big 12’s most prolific rusher and was right up there with the best in the nation. However, there’s a very real chance that he’s not even in the race at the end. With that said, if there’s one thing Sarkisian is going to do between now and when the finalists are selected, it’s making a case for his superstar.
