Texas has consecutive double-digit wins seasons now for the first time since having nine straight in the 2000s. However, a lot more has gone into these end results with still more to do as well for the Longhorns.

Steve Sarkisian was asked how it felt to be one of three coaches in school history to have back-to-back seasons of 10-plus wins during a press conference earlier this week. While honored, winning that many games in the regular season isn’t why he’s down coaching on The 40 Acres.

“I mean, I don’t think, in my opening press conference, I said, ‘Hey, I want to, I came to the University of Texas to win 10 games’. You know, we came here to win championships, you know, and that’s been our goal,” said Sarkisian. “That’s been the standard. That’s what we keep striving for.”

Still, no team can win a national title to begin with without getting around or above that win total. That’s why it is important and why what they do each and every day is notable in trying to achieve that as a program for Sarkisian.

“That’s the end result, right, and so we always put that at the end. And then are we doing championship work every day, right? Are we championship coaches? Do we have championship schemes? Do we have a championship weight program? Do we have a championship nutrition program? Do we have a championship study hall? Do we have a championship work ethic? Do we have a championship culture? Do we have a championship locker room, right?” Sarkisian asked. “That’s, like, yes, what we’re striving for and we’re chasing that every day but we’ve got to make sure the way we’re chasing it every day is at a championship level.”

After having their best season in years last fall at 12-2 overall, Texas can surpass that this season as they’re currently at 10-1. That’s more impressive this year as they’re doing that in their debut season in the SEC with the Longhorns being a game away from a spot in the SEC Championship. They’re also very likely to make consecutive appearances in the College Football Playoff as they’re currently ranked at No. 3 in the nation with a chance to get a first-round bye if they were to be in and win while in Atlanta next weekend.

10 wins is an accomplishment in any season but certainly so if you can do it consistently. That’s what Sarkisian is looking for each day, each month, and then each postseason once the Longhorns get there.
