Steve Sarkisian opened his first full offseason as the head coach of Texas by visiting his top recruit in Brenen Thompson.

Sarkisian, along with wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks, traveled Sunday to Spearman, Texas, to meet with Thompson.

The four-star wide receiver posted a photo of the coaches at his high school football field on his Instagram.

He later tweeted out a simple “Hook Em” as well.

Brenen Thompson is the No. 50 overall recruit in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is one of the biggest commitments Sarkisian has landed since taking over as head coach.

The Longhorns have the No. 10 recruiting class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. Thompson is the only player in the class ranked in the top 100 of the On3 Consensus.

Other notable commits include Bremond (Texas) Marlin four-star defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe, Aledo (Texas) four-star safety Bryan Allen Jr., Donaldsonville (La.) Ascension Catholic four-star EDGE J’mond Tapp, Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra four-star quarterback Maalik Murphy

Interestingly, Thompson is the only wideout pledge in the class. Although that will likely not be for long.

He committed to Texas on Oct. 6, 2021. Thompson said he was excited for the opportunity to play in coach Sarkisian’s high-octane offense.

“Definitely just treating us like family,” Thompson told On3’s Gerry Hamilton about his decision to commit to the Longhorns. “I knew that was going to be a big deal in my recruitment from the start. I wanted to be somewhere where I was treated like family, and UT did a really good job with that, the whole coaching staff.”
