Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown isn’t being mentioned among the best prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft. However, Bryant McFadden writes that he could be by the end of this coming season. The former Florida State and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback-turned-CBS Sports analyst is a believer in Overshown.

“Former five-star safety prospect that has a nose guard attitude,” writes McFadden. “He spun down to linebacker last year, and you could see him get more comfortable on a weekly basis.

“Moves well in space and plays with the right gap integrity in the run game. He’s exactly what the NFL is looking for in a linebacker.”

For Overshown, it’s big praise coming from a writer who’s played with linebackers like James Harrison, James Farrior and LaMarr Wodley. Moreover, McFadden has seen what it takes to be an impact player in the NFL, and he sees that in the Texas linebacker.

DeMarvion Overshown in 2020

Last season, Overshown started all 10 games last season for the Longhorns. He compiled 60 tackles, eight tackles for loss and one sack. Additionally, he added seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, four quarterback hurries and two interceptions.

As a former safety, Overshown possesses impressive athletic ability coveted by defensive coordinators in today’s game. If he can stay healthy this season, there’s no reason to believe the linebacker won’t be selected within the first couple rounds of the NFL Draft.

Even his new head coach is marveling at his abilities. When speaking on Overshown, Steve Sarkisian mentioned his speed is eye-popping.

“Seeing him through four practices, he’s a really good football player and I’m glad he’s back out there,” stated Sarkisian, per Jeff Howe of 247Sports.

Texas bringing Overshown along slowly

While Sarkisian may be enamored with Overshown, the Texas linebacker is in a new system. While he expects to be a key playmaker and leader for the Longhorns, Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and staff are bringing him along slowly as he gets back from a shoulder injury he suffered in the spring.

Still, Kwiatkowski is excited about what Overshown brings to the table and highlighted the senior as a key playmaker for the Longhorns defense this season.

“We’ve been bringing him along because of his shoulder deal through the spring,” Kwiatkowski said to the media Wednesday. “When he finally got out there the other day, the guy is super fast, super explosive. You can tell the way he plays he loves football. He likes contact. He’s a very dynamic explosive guy.”

Prior to last season, Overshown moved down from defensive back to linebacker. Having an entire offseason to key in at linebacker could see him elevate his game to another level, even after the 2020 season he had.

“Last year, I really didn’t get a chance to learn the linebacker position before fall camp,” Overshown said. “So basically getting a full offseason at the position I feel like what people saw last year was not even close to what they’re gonna see this year.”

What we saw last season was pretty good. If his play matches the hype he’s receiving, Overshown is in for a huge 2021 season.
