Texas has dropped six consecutive games, and head coach Steve Sarkisian is well aware that is a far cry from meeting expectations. The Longhorns are officially out of bowl contention for the first time since 2016, the last year of the Charlie Strong era.

Sarkisian is not going to wait to make changes, either. The first-year head coach announced Monday the starting quarterback job will be opened up for the 2022 season.

“We have to open that job up. We have to let those guys compete,” he said in his weekly press conference.

Redshirt freshman Hudson Card won the job in the preseason, but he struggled to hold on to the job. Casey Thompson stepped in, looking like the answer. But the position has been unstable since Texas’ second-half meltdown against Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout.
