Texas has been one of the more active programs in the transfer portal with head coach Steve Sarkisian always looking to improve his roster. He added another top player on Monday, with Iowa State wide receiver Tarique Milton announcing he would be playing for the Longhorns next season.

Milton revealed his destination via Twitter on Monday afternoon, releasing a statement. He has been in the transfer portal since the 2021 season ended, waiting until spring practices were over to make a decision. Staying within the Big 12, Milton will be heading down to Austin for his final year.

“I’d like to thank all of the college programs and coaches who have reached out to me during my time in the portal,” Milton said. “I’ve discussed and prayed over my decision with my family, and I am excited for this next chapter.

“I’m grateful and honored to continue my graduate studies, and finish my college football career at the University of Texas. Thank you to Coach Sarkisian, Coach Banks, and Coach Marion for believing in my ability, talent, and character.

“To the Longhorns administration, students, alumni, and fans… HOOK ‘EM!”

Milton spent five seasons with Iowa State, originally being a member of the 2017 recruiting class. Once he was on campus in Ames, the wide receiver took a redshirt year. Add in the COVID-19 eligibility rule and Milton is able to play a sixth year of college football.

During his redshirt sophomore campaign, Milton caught 35 passes for 722 yards and three touchdowns. The thought was that Milton would breakout and become one of the best wide receivers in the conference. However, he has not been able to put up similar numbers ever since. Milton had just 30 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns over his last two years.

Texas has already hit the transfer portal hard for pass catchers as Milton makes the third. Isaiah Neyor went through spring practice after leaving Wyoming while Jahleel Billingsley is at tight end via Alabama. The Longhorns were in the race for now USC wide receiver Jordan Addison as well.

Milton will bring new energy to the room for position coach Brennen Marrion. For years, it was difficult for the Longhorns to get to top wide receivers on campus to help out their quarterbacks. Now, Texas will bolster one of the best groups in the Big 12, with Sarkisian revitalizing his passing game in one offseason.
