Texas has extended an offer for Waco (Texas) Connally four-star athlete Oklahoma State commit Jelani McDonald.

McDonald is the No. 423 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He is ranked much higher by On3, which has him as the No. 102 prospect in the 2023 On300 ranking. Only two other athletes are ranked ahead of him in Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor and Mustang (Okla.) four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power explained why On3 is so high on McDonald in August.

“Jelani McDonald has one of the most impressive athletic profiles in the 2023 cycle,” Power said. “He’s a state champion long-jumper with a 48-2 foot leap along with a personal best of 6-6 in the high jump. McDonald also stars on the basketball court, where he was district MVP as a junior. That’s all in addition to his exploits in football, where he stars as a quarterback for Waco (Texas) Connally. The athleticism coincides with a unique frame. McDonald is over 6-foot-2, 190 pounds with a 6-foot-6 wing-span. He’ll need to hone in on a position at the next level and could end up as a safety or linebacker depending on how his frame fills out. Regardless, we view McDonald as a high upside type given his athleticism and size.”

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.9k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
