Amarillo (Texas) offensive lineman Kaden Carr became the first player to commit to Texas Tech in the 2023 cycle on Monday.

The 6-foot-5 offensive lineman announced the news on Twitter.

Carr is the fourth prospect to commit to the Red Raiders since Joey McGuire took over as head coach last week. McGuire offered Carr a scholarship one day before his commitment.

He held offers from Arizona State, Houston, Louisville, North Texas, New Mexico, Oregon, SMU, TCU, UCF and Western Kentucky.

Kaden Carr’s commitment shows Joey McGuire is making waves on the recruiting trail

McGuire’s three previous commitments all came last Monday from players at Cedar Hill (Texas) High, where McGuire was the head coach for 14 seasons.

Those three players are three-star defensive lineman Harvey Dyson III, three-star defensive lineman Syncere Massey and three-star cornerback Jalon Peoples. Massey was an Arizona State flip. Peoples was the best recruit of the three, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Those three commitments leaped Texas Tech from No. 66 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking to No. 58, although they have since dropped two spots to No. 60.

And it all came on his first day on the job — before he even had a formal press conference.

He hasn’t slowed from investing in recruiting either. He has got Katy (Texas) High three-star linebacker and USC decommit Ty Kana to agree to visit Lubbock, Texas, this weekend. He made Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider running back/EDGE Anquan Willisdreams come true by offering him after a dominant playoff performance. He entered the running for Gladewater (Texas) four-star wide receiver DJ Allen.

And while he has focused on the Lone Star State, he has also extended an offer to Choctaw (Okla.) three-star offensive tackle and TCU commit Cade McConnell.
