Caleb Williams has been the center of attention at USC ever since his decision to head to The City of Angels this offseason. He took his talents with Lincoln Riley to Hollywood after his freshman season at Oklahoma. Now, he’s a part of a contender both in the Pac-12 and for the College Football Playoff. It’s been a long, heavy journey since his decision in the transfer portal but, considering all things, it’s paid off to this point.

Williams sat down with Matt Leinart for an interview with ‘CFB on FOX’. He said the transition from Norman to Los Angeles has been drastic but that being in the program with the people he’s been around has made it an easier adjustment.

“It’s been different to say the least. Waking up every day and it’s 75 outside and sunny,” said Williams. “Then being here with Coach Riley and kind of trying to help bring back USC? It’s been a journey. But it’s been more than fun being around everybody on this mission that we’re on right now.”

Williams has put himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation with his 1,590 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. It has helped USC to team success too with the Trojans off to their best start since 2006. Combine the personal and team success and Williams says it has reassured the decision he made back in February.

“I wouldn’t say that I necessarily learned anything. It just kind of reinforced,” Williams said. “We went through a tough summer, tough spring, all the workouts, all the hard work, extra work. In the moment, you kind of felt it. All the right, the grit, the determination to want to win and it (has) showed.”

With USC’s season halfway done, they control their own destiny. Matchups with Utah this weekend as well as UCLA and Notre Dame to end the season will determine how far USC can take things in Riley’s first season. Still, so much of this early run can be traced back to Williams’ decision to stay with Riley and it has made all the difference for the Trojans so far.
