After a phenomenal first season with USC, Caleb Williams won the Heisman Trophy. This made Williams the eighth Trojan, including Reggie Bush, to win the Heisman Trophy. That’s the most of any school, just ahead of Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. Matt Leinart and Bush were the most recent to do so before Williams.

The emotions of an event like the Heisman Trophy Ceremony are hard to describe. However, Caleb Williams tried to do just that, explaining what he felt that night.

“It for sure lived up to kind of what I thought it was, and maybe a little bit more,” Caleb Williams said. “I’m kind of hearing all the stories of all the other Heisman winners, anything like that, sitting down, talking to them.”

Caleb Williams did admit that this was an emotional process for him. However, he was surprised that didn’t show more on the night of the ceremony.

“So, for sure lived up to it and then emotional–going over my speech nights before and things like that. I get a little bit emotional about myself and I got up there and I kind of surprised myself that I didn’t get emotional talking about my mom or anything like that.”

After that, for Caleb Williams, it’s been business as usual as he prepares for the Cotton Bowl against Tulane. Though, there are a few more people texting him than normal.

“Other than that, it’s been all good. Not too emotional. Kind of the same. Gotten a few more texts from people, anything like that, that maybe I haven’t heard from in a while. Other than that, still been the same. Back here. We got a game in a couple of weeks and preparing, working hard, and getting back healthy.”

This season, Caleb Williams threw for 4,075 yards and 37 touchdowns to only four interceptions. He also ran for 10 touchdowns.

Caleb Williams on the company he’s joining as a Heisman winner

Caleb Williams spoke about the type of company he joined among the lineage of Heisman winners from USC.

“It’s pretty cool to be a part of that. Not only be a part of it but to be able to add to it is one of the coolest things. Being able to talk to Mike [Garrett], Matt [Leinart], Carson Palmer, Marcus [Allen], and some of the other Heisman winners, it’s pretty cool,” Caleb Williams said.

“They shared that when you’re in [New York City for the ceremony], it’s usually a once in a lifetime experience, especially when you win. And also to keep smiling, be happy that you’re here. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity a player to go win a Heisman, so to be in that moment, no matter how much sleep I had, I kept a smile on my face, I was happy to be there and I’m very grateful.”
