USC wide receiver Bru McCroy will not face charges pertaining to a felony arrest on July 24.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office determined there was insufficient evidence will not file a case.

“We appreciate the careful consideration by both the district attorney’s office and LAPD,” said McCoy’s attorney Michael Goldstein in a statement, per the Los Angeles Times. “We always trusted the process and the right decision was made.”

21-year-old McCoy was arrested on July 24 at 5:30 p.m. The violation is listed under California Penal Code section 273.5(a), which pertains to a person who “willfully inflicts corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” upon a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant or dating partner. He was released later that night on $50,000 bail and was supposed to appear in court on Nov. 24.

McCoy was removed from team activities following the arrest and remains away from the team while USC conducts its own internal investigation through the school’s Title IX office. It continues to be unclear whether McCoy is allowed on the Southern California campus.

McCoy was a highly sought-after prospect from California powerhouse Mater Dei back in 2019. He had a roller coaster recruitment, signing and enrolling at USC before flipping and enrolling at Texas in early 2019 and then transferring back to USC within six months. He sat out his freshman season with an illness. In 2020, McCoy caught 21 passes for 236 yards and was expected to emerge as a key contributor for the Trojan offense in the 2021 season.

Long history of USC wide receivers continues in 2021

USC has produced some top-level receivers in recent years. They even earned ESPN’s title of “Wide Receiver U” this year.

Drake London returns this season after 33 receptions, 502 yards and three touchdowns in 2020. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound junior will step into a bigger role after Amon-Ra St. Brown and Tyler Vaughns have moved on to the NFL.

Wide receiver Kyle Ford is healthy after tearing a ligament in his knee last summer and could be an impact player. Gary Bryant will look to build upon an impressive 2020 freshman season in which he played a role both as a receiver and return man.

Quarterback Kedon Slovis is on Heisman watch, especially given offensive coordinator Graham Harrell is running the pass-heavy Air Raid offense with the Trojans.
