Less than a week after returning from an official visit and getting an in-home visit from new Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire, Bethany, Okla., three-star cornerback Jocelyn Malaska has had a change of heart.

Malaska, who is 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, said he’s switched his commitment from Tech and is now committed to Utah.

“After a great official visit, an in-person visit with Coach Morgan Scalley and a great call with Coach Kyle Whittingham, I’m switching my commitment to the University of Utah,” Malaska said.

Jocelyn Malaska improves Utah’s class

Jocelyn Malaska is the No. 64 cornerback in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks him as the 40th best corner overall and the No. 12 player in Oklahoma.

Malaska is the 11th commitment for Utah. The Utes currently have the No. 39 class in the country, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. They are fifth in the Pac 12 Conference behind Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.

Utah’s class is built off a foundation of top local players, like four-star linebacker Lander Barton of Salt Lake City Brighton and three-star athlete Carson Tabaracci of Park City. However, Utah does have a four-star out-of-state quarterback commit in Nate Johnson of Clovis, Calif.

Jocelyn Malaska is the first Oklahoma player to commit to Utah in 2022 class. Cornerback JaTravis Broughton out of Tulsa Union in the 2019 class was the last player from the Sooner State to sign with Utah.

With Jocelyn Malaska’s decommitment, Texas Tech drops to 13 commits and No. 58 in the country. Four-star Maurion Horn of Broken Arrow, Okla., is the top Red Raider commitment. But Tech fans can expect a busy final eight days before the start of the early signing period.
