Utah tight ends coach visits 4-star TE Walker Lyons
Folsom (Calif.) four-star tight end Walker Lyons is one of the top uncommitted players at his position. On Friday, he received an in-home visit from Utah tight ends coach Fred Whittingham Jr.
Lyons has previously made two visits to the Utes. His last one was an official on the weekend of June 11.
“The coaches at Utah aren’t going anywhere,” Lyons told On3’s Chad Simmons on May 16. “That is big with all the changes that have been going on. They also use tight ends. This past season, their three tight ends had 108 catches. That is unheard of, so that speaks for itself. I love the coaching stability too and the program is on an upward trend.”
Lyons is the No. 133 overall prospect and No. 6 tight end in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 player in California.

A California native, Lyons was previously committed to Stanford. He backed off his pledge to the Cardinal on Nov. 28.
At the moment, Utah’s 2023 recruiting class is No. 26 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the Pac-12. The group is led by Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland four-star offensive tackle Caleb Lomu.
Lyons has an On3 NIL Valuation of $123K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
Walker Lyons On3 Scouting Summary
The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Walker Lyons:
“One of the more polished pass catchers at the tight end position in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Lines up with his hand in the dirt as a true in-line Y, splits out wide and lines up in the slot as a flex option. Excellent body control and ability to contort his frame to be in the best position to catch the football. Measured in at 6-foot-5, just under 230 pounds. Had 44 receptions for 746 yards and 9 touchdowns as a junior. Helped lead NorCal powerhouse Folsom High to a state championship final as a junior.
“Twitchy off the line of scrimmage and has tremendous wiggle for his size as a route runner. Shows some explosiveness as a hooper on the hardwood. Needs to be more violent in the run game as a blocker but does have willingness. May not have the length or pure catch radius of some other top tight end prospects. Expected to take a two-year LDS mission.”
