Virginia Tech forward Justyn Mutts has withdrawn his name from the 2022 NBA Draft just hours before the deadline, according to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein. The senior will return for his fifth season of college basketball and third season with the Hokies.

Before Virginia Tech, Justyn Mutts started his college career at High Point before sitting out the 2018-19 season to transfer to Delaware. From there, he made a move to the Hokies in 2020. Since arriving, he has started 57 of 58 appearances while averaging 9.9 points and 7.0 rebounds with 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks.

Mutts started as an unranked recruit in 2017, playing high school basketball at St. Augustine Prep School in New Jersey. Now, he has taken the chance to showcase his skillset in front of NBA scouts before returning to the ACC with hopes that they will keep a trained eye on his performance over the next year.

Justyn Mutts is coming off his second year with the Hokies after they finished the season by winning the ACC Tournament with a victory over Duke. Unfortunately, the season ended with their second-straight loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

When he originally declared for the draft, Mutts left this message for Virginia Tech fans, thanking them for their support over the past two seasons.

“Dear Hokie Nation, My heart is forever with you,” read Mutts’ official announcement. “My time at Virginia Tech has been one of the best experiences of my life. I’m grateful and blessed to say I am not the same person I was when I came to Blacksburg two years ago. Thanks to my amazing family, friends, coaches and the countless other people that have helped mold me, I can see myself growing into the person I’ve always wanted to be. With that being said, I have decided to declare for the 2022 NBA Draft while still maintaining my college eligibility. I’m excited for what the future has to hold.”
