Virginia Tech legend Brandon Flowers faced a tough task Saturday morning on ACC Network, asked to name his all-time Hokies secondary. The former Hokies cornerback had a lot of names to choose from but chose four names from the 2000s to make up his

“Of course I am number one, because I am the one picking,” joked Flowers. “That’s tough. So, at corner of course myself and I’m gonna go with Jimmy Williams at the other corner, consensus All-American. At strong safety, I’m gonna go with Kam Chancellor, he is the enforcer. Free safety, man that’s tough. I’m gonna go with Vinny Fuller just because he was a commander on the field. He is going to get everybody lined up, make plays when they come his way. You know, he is not a guy that has that much notariety, but we know, we played with him Eddie, where he is going to get everybody lined up and always make a play.”

Flowers spurned the likes of cornerback DeAngelo Hall, Willie Pie, Kyle Fuller, Kendall Fuller and a more recent name in 2021 first round draft pick Caleb Farley.

Brandon Flowers was a second round pick of the 2008 NFL Draft after being named an All-American at Virginia Tech. During his collegiate career, Flowers recorded 157 tackles and ten interceptions in his 27 starts from 2004-2007.

Jimmy Williams played for the Hokies from 2002-2005. As a senior,Williams was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and a unanimous first-team All-American. In his four year career, Williams recorded nine interceptions. He went on to be drafted in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

Kam Chancellor played at Virginia Tech from 2006-2009 before an extensive NFL career. In his time with the Hokies, Chancellor recorded 208 tackles and six interceptions. Chancellor helped Virginia Tech to two ACC Championships and earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior. He went on to play nine years in the NFL, all with Seattle, and was most notably the enforcer of the Legion of Boom era. In his pro career Chancellor earned four Pro Bowl appearances, was a two-time second-team All-Pro and helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Vincent Fuller played at Virginia Tech from 2000-2004. In his five year career, Fuller recorded 142 tackles, eight interceptions, three fumble recoveries and 19 pass deflections. Fuller rotated between safety and cornerback in his career. He went on to play five seasons for the Tennessee Titans, recording 163 tackles and six interception in his career.
