It’s officially college football bowl season and that means absolutely anything can happen. The beautiful part about sports and football is you never know what you’re going to see until it comes time to strap on the pads and tee it up. On Saturday afternoon against Fresno State in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl, Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward made precisely the type of highlight you don’t want to be on. Everybody knows about the time that former Detroit Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky drifted out of the back of the end zone while trying to throw a pass, embarrassingly giving his team a safety.

Ward pulled an Orlovsky on Saturday in the second quarter. The Fresno State defense pressured him in the back of the end zone and Ward completely forgot where he was on the field, giving the Bulldogs a safety and a 16-0 advantage.

Check out the play here.

It’ll certainly be a memory that Ward would like to forget. This season, Ward has completed 64.1% of his passes for 3,094 yards, while tossing in 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Washington State lost the game, 29-6. Fresno State piled up over 200 rushing yards in the victory.

Last season for Incarnate Word, Ward threw for 4,648 passing yards and 46 touchdowns. He led his team to a 10-3 overall record. They lost in the second round of the FCS playoffs to the top-seeded Sam Houston State Bearkats. He threw 70 touchdown passes in 19 career games during his time with Incarnate Word. He was named a second team FCS All-American. His freshman year at Incarnate Word, he won the 2021 Jerry Rice Award–which is given to the most outstanding freshman player in FCS football.

Ward played his high school football at Columbia High School (West Columbia, Texas).
