Lady’s Island (S.C.) three-star defensive lineman Eamon Smalls has decommitted from West Virginia. He was a member of the Mountaineers’ 2023 recruiting class for roughly three-and-a-half months.

Smalls is the No. 1,479 overall prospect and No. 155 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 27 player in South Carolina.

The 6-foot-2, 325 pound prospect announced his prior pledge to West Virginia on June 12. On Sunday afternoon, he tweeted “For everyone wondering Yes, my recruitment is still open.”

West Virginia received two visits from Smalls, including an official visit on June 10. He also took an unofficial visit to Morgantown on March 5.

Smalls took three other unofficial visits as well. He went to Clemson on April 6, Alabama on April 9 and Florida A&M on April 16.

The South Carolina native currently holds seven offers. Schools who have extended them besides West Virginia include Liberty and South Carolina. Following Smalls’ decommitment, West Virginia’s 2023 class is No. 36 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 6 in the Big 12

Smalls has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.3K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
