Both West Virginia and Texas will be looking for their first Big 12 win on Saturday, with a primetime showdown taking place at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Emotions are going to be high on both sidelines, with a positive result needed for both Steve Sarkisian and Neal Brown.

As usual, the topic of Horns Down was asked heading into an opponent’s game against Texas. Brown was quick to dismiss the topic, saying he hasn’t thought about it. Compared to other coaches that have been on the Longhorns’ schedule, this is a new answer for the 2022 season.

“I’ve put zero thought into it, really,” Brown said.

Previously, when Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas Tech‘s Joey McGuire were asked, they said it would be addressed with their team. Nothing came of it during the actual game itself but once the wins were secured, that was a different story.

Now, it’s Brown who will seemingly have to deal with this issue. West Virginia arguably has the most famous Horns Down moment in recent memory, also coming in Austin. After scoring a game-winning two-point conversion, Mountaineers Will Grier flashed a pretty stellar double Horns Down in front of the Texas faithful.

Yes, he was flagged for the incident — given a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty on the kickoff. However, that occurred under Dana Holgerson. Now, with Brown running the program, Horns Down seems to be an afterthought.

Texas and West Virginia will kick off at 6:30, with the Longhorns coming off a loss to Texas Tech and Brown’s squad getting a rivalry win over Virginia Tech. Both coaches need to jumpstart their programs in a forward direction. Wins on Saturday would be the right step early in the 2022 season.
