West Virginia RB Diore Hubbard expected to enter NCAA transfer portal
West Virginia running back Diore Hubbard is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Hubbard was the team’s leading rusher in 2025 and spent two seasons with the Mountaineers.
Hubbard totaled 335 yards and four touchdowns across 96 carries during the 2025 campaign. He only logged stats in eight games this past season, and missed the season finale against Texas Tech on Nov. 29 after getting banged up against Arizona State a couple of weeks prior.
He was a true freshman in 2024. Hubbard redshirted but made appearances at Oklahoma State and against Kansas State that season.
A three-star recruit from Gahanna Lincoln (OH), Hubbard was the No. 1,005 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 76 RB in his high school class and No. 40 player out of the state of Ohio and was recruited by the likes of Kentucky, Bowling Green, Boston College and UAB, among others.
During his high school career, Hubbard was a two-time Ohio All-State First-Team selection that included a career totaling 5,221 rushing yards with 65 touchdowns. As a junior, Hubbard totaled 2,365 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns while averaging 177.1 all-purpose yards per game.

He turned the dial up as a senior, rushing for 1,883 yards as a senior with 28 touchdowns to lead his high school’s conference. That came with 8.4 yards per carry and 144.8 yards per game on average. He rushed for over 250 yards in two games, and 100 or more yards in nine matchups as a senior. Hubbard added 233 yards receiving and two scores through the air as well.
A recruit from the Neal Brown era, Hubbard stayed on for the first year of Rich Rodriguez’s second stint as head coach of West Virginia. Brown has since taken the head coaching job at North Texas, replacing Eric Morris who’s taking the same job at Oklahoma State.
Hubbard ends his time with the Mountaineers logging a 10-15 record over the past two seasons. That included a 4-8 finish during the 2025 season.
