Don’t you love it when alumni care? No, seriously. For Ben Brust, a former Wisconsin combo guard that was a part of the 2013-2014 Final Four team, he’s not too happy with the direction the football program is going down, and has weighed in on the state of the Badgers’ season after getting blown out by Ohio State last weekend.

After discussing Northwestern‘s plans for an $800 million stadium, Brust’s anger escalated from joking about the Wildcats, to legitimately getting angry about the fact that Northwestern is doing more for its football program than Wisconsin.

“That means they’re investing into their football program not, not just the kids, but also the place that will get the kids there,” Brust said on his podcast, Scalzo & Brust. “Look, I’m sad. The talent gap is wide and other people are doing stuff, and we’re sitting there with our butts in the seats with the same damn people running the show. And guess what? It’s horrible. It’s monotonous. Let’s mix it up. Let’s get some new ideas. Let’s get some new people in the building – it’s the same crap! It just trickling down!

“We are seven-point favorites at home against Illinois. Seven! That is embarrassing. We used to be 30 point favorites against that crap-ass school. Seven point favorites at Camp Randall, seven!”

Wisconsin was ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, but was bounced from the rankings after losing 17-14 to a Washington State team that just gave No. 15 Oregon a run for its money, falling 44-41 during the Week 4 slate. The Ohio State loss was seemingly inevitable, and the Badgers have taken care of the rest despite sitting at 2-2 on the season.

Still, Brust’s outburst makes it obvious the former Badger athlete holds his old program to a higher standard than they’re playing at right now.

“Does that not hurt your heart? Because it makes me feel like we shouldn’t even have a football program,” Brust continued. “We suck! I’m talking to my former teammates about how Purdue, Minnesota [and] Iowa, who stinks, could potentially beat us. Iowa can’t score! We suck. We need to do something. I don’t care what thing it is – somebody do something!”

Brust’s plead for help comes days before the Badgers’ game against Illinois. Kickoff is set for noon ET live on the Big Ten Network.
