The Wisconsin Badgers men’s and women’s basketball teams have scheduled one of the most unique doubleheaders in sports history as they travel to Milwaukee to play non-conference games inside a baseball stadium. Billed as the “Brew City Battle,” the Milwaukee Brewers’ American Family Field will serve as the host for two games on Nov. 11.

Wisconsin men’s basketball will play Stanford, while the women’s basketball team will face Kansas State. Game times and television assignments will be announced at a later date. In addition, Wisconsin announced there will be a return date for both games, with details coming in the future.

The graphic put out by the Milwaukee Brewers includes temporary seating on the side of the court which faces the outfield, along with courtside seats on the remaining three sides across the infield. The design shows an elevated floor which places mid-court just above the pitcher’s mound and both baselines inside the corner bags.

“Playing a game at American Family Field has been a vision for quite some time and I am so excited to see it become a reality,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said in a statement, via ESPN.

Tickets for the unique event will go on sale on July 26. It will be the first time a college basketball game is played at an MLB ballpark since 2015, when the San Diego Padres played host to San Diego and San Diego State and experienced many difficulties.

The unique sports event billed as the Brew City Battle will provide Wisconsin fans in the state’s most populated city to see the state’s flagship compete. While the Milwaukee Bucks’ Fiserv Forum might have seemed a more obvious fit, Greg Gard says this has been in the cards for a while.

The capacity of American Family Field sits at 41,900 and features a retractable roof which can protect the event in case of imminent weather. The city’s largest venue also hosts concerts and other events throughout the year in addition to Brewers games in the summer.

The ballpark has become known for its tailgating scene over the years and promises the create a special college basketball atmosphere in a city where the sport has taken off since the emergence of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks 2021 NBA championship.
