As a College Recruit

Productive pure pocket passer with clean mechanics and the ability to throw with timing and touch. Plays in an air-it-out system at the high school level that puts up bunches of points. Completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 2,907 yards yards and 39 touchdowns against 5 interceptions at 9.38 yards per attempt as a senior. Has a natural, tight throwing motion and spins the ball well. Most comfortable when sitting back and delivering from the pocket. Shows nuance as a passer with the ability to deliver well-located throws to all levels. Has room to add mass to his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame. Tests as a solid athlete, running a 4.87 second 40-yard dash and jumping 34 inches in the vertical. Can do a better job of translating that athleticism to the field. Has not been much of a playmaker outside of the pocket to this point. Rushed for -27 yards as a junior and just 23 yards as a senior. Will need to show the ability to create plays outside of structure to be a top quarterback long-term.

Austin Novosad's throwing motion, build and playing style as a pure, in structure pocket passer remind us of Jared Goff. Both Novosad and Goff were productive passers at the high school level. Goff showed a little more rushing ability and threw more interceptions, while Novosad played tougher competition.

Austin Novosad rises in final On300 rankings

Charles Power•

Oregon signee Austin Novosad (No. 103) also makes a notable jump right outside the top 100. Novosad looked like one of the more polished passers in the 2023 cycle both as a senior at Dripping Springs (Texas) High and at the All-American Bowl. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is a pure pocket passer who is at his best when working from within structure.

Austin Novosad shows pure passing ability at Elite 11 Finals

Charles Power•

Austin Novosad was one of the cleaner passers on hand at the Elite 11 Finals. The Dripping Springs (Texas) High product is a pure thrower. The ball comes out of his hand clean and crisp with consistency. Novosad was a standout in drill work on Day 1 and fared well in his pro day scrip on Day 2. He threw the ball up for grabs a few times in 7-on-7 on Thursday and finished 12 of 17 for one touchdown and two interceptions. But it was a still a good showing for Novosad overall. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is an in-structure pocket passer at this stage.
