As a College Recruit

Polished receiver with technical savvy and a sizable catch radius. Checked in at around 6-foot-1, 180 pounds as a senior. Has plus length with arms that measure 32.5 to 33 inches with big hands. Highly coordinated with the ability to track, adjust and high-point the football in contested situations. Has shown some encouraging route-running skills. Doubles as a dangerous return man due to his change of direction and open-field vision. A consistent performer when facing to cornerbacks while playing a national schedule at IMG Academy. More quick than fast. Will need to continue adding improving his burst and long speed as he has yet to run a verified 40-yard dash faster than 4.72 seconds. Well-rounded technical skill set and battle-tested resume against top competition points to a high floor with his ultimate ceiling being determined by his continued athletic development.

Carnell Tate’s dimensions, athleticism and ball skills are similar to Tyler Boyd at the same stage. Both are savvy, skilled receivers with the ability to win at the catch point. Boyd was a dominant do-it-all star at the prep level while Tate plays in a lower usage role on a loaded IMG squad.

Carnell Tate has up and down weekend at Overtime OT7

Charles Power

Touted pass catcher Carnell Tate had an up and down weekend at OT7 but showed talent and upside in making some high-level plays, particularly on Sunday. Tate’s consistency was not quite to the level of some of his other highly-ranked peers, but the ability to make tough grabs was apparent at times.

Carnell Tate a standout in opener against American Heritage

Charles Power

Carnell Tate was a standout when IMG Academy and American Heritage faced off. Tate got things started by returning a kickoff for a touchdown that was called back. He added another long return later in the game. Tate emerged as the top target for Florida State quarterback commit AJ Duffy throughout the contest. He beat West Virginia commit Jacolby Spells for a touchdown in the second half, showing off his ability to create some separation against a speedy corner. Tate also nearly had an acrobatic highlight grab on a vertical shot down the sideline.
