Cormani McClain is a tall, thin cornerback with ball skills and playmaking ability that reminds us of Trayvon Mullen. Both played some offense over the course of their high school careers. Mullen had more verified speed at the same stage.

The number of top receivers did not make for an easy environment for cornerbacks, even Five-Star Plus+ prospects like Cormani McClain and 2024 prospect Desmond Ricks (2024). Each had their wins and losses. McClain was beat deep in the title game, but showed some resiliency in responding for two nice plays in coverage.

Cormani McClain Scouting Summary
One of the tallest cornerbacks in the 2023 cycle who emerged as a top prospect at the position as an underclassman. Has a tall, thin build measuring close to 6-foot-2, 160 pounds. Has good length with a 6-foot-4 wing-span. Tested as a plus athlete prior to his junior year, running a 4.58 second 40-yard dash along with a 10'8" broad jump. Emerged as a ballhawking defender with nine interceptions as a sophomore and six picks in his junior season. Pairs his strong ball skills with the ability to break on the ball quickly. Physical, chippy corner who plays with an edge. Shows good coverage instincts and makes plays as a freelancer. Best when making plays in front of him. Transferred high schools as a senior was not targeted often. Had ups and downs staying in-phase with receivers on downfield routes in multiple neutral settings. Will need to continue improving his long speed and gaining mass and strength at the next level. Older for the cycle, turning 19 years-old during his senior year.
