As a College Recruit

Big-bodied signal caller who looks like the top arm talent in the 2022 cycle. Has a strong, pliable arm with the ability to hit all portions of the field without strain. Typically throws with a three-quarters release but has the dexterity to throw from multiple arm slots when needed. A loose thrower with considerable rotation throughout his upper body. Quickly flicks side-armed passes into small windows across the middle of the field. Also shows the ability to layer passes over the second level of the defense. Consistently fitting throws into tight windows as a senior. Has a deep catalog of throws. Is an average athlete for the position. Employed as a designed runner and has satisfactory mobility, using his size to run with power. Improvises and makes second-reaction plays when things break down. Plays in a deep shot gun which is typically not beneficial for fostering pocket feel, but shows the ability to step up and slide within the pocket at times. Playing his best as a senior and is among the more productive top quarterbacks in the 2022 cycle. Led his high school (not a traditional power) to an undefeated regular season.

Drew Allar is unique in that there are not many pocket passers at his size (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) with his arm dexterity. The Penn State signal caller not only has plus arm strength – he delivers throws from multiple arm slots and gets considerable rotation throughout his upper body allowing for off-platform throws. There does not appear to be a great comp for Allar. We considered Philip Rivers and Josh Allen before ultimately settling on Flacco. Rivers has a unique playing style and release and it’s tough to project Allar ending up as a similar athlete and rush threat to Allen. While he’s an inch or two shorter than Flacco, we see some similarities in the plus arm talent, movement skills and even some of the delivery from Flacco’s time at Delaware and ultimately in the NFL.

Drew Allar a top performer at All-American Bowl

Charles Power

Drew Allar was the top performing quarterback during All-American Bowl practices, showcasing his advanced passing talent and skill. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has the best arm talent in the 2022 cycle. He has plus arm strength with the ability to easily drive the ball to all levels. Allar delivers from multiple arm slots and can layer the football, resulting in easily catchable passes. There were multiple occasions throughout the week where Allar would throw prior to a receiver showing himself to be open. While he didn’t stuff the stat sheet in the game, we saw Allar make some high-level throws over the course of the afternoon.

Drew Allar leads team to playoff win

Charles Power

Penn State quarterback commit Drew Allar led his Medina (Ohio) High team into the third round of the playoffs in Ohio’s largest classification. Medina entered the game against Cleveland St. Ignatius with an undefeated 12-0 record and came away with a 27-14 win in front of a big crowd. Allar continued to show off his nuanced passing skill on a cold and windy night, completing 30 of 54 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns. He showed the ability to step up in the pocket and strafe to avoid pressure. The first two touchdowns came on quick slants in the first half.Perhaps the best throw of the day came on Allar’s third touchdown pass. Facing 4th and 4, Allar rolled out to his right and dropped in a perfectly placed touch pass to a receiver who had just a bit of separation on double coverage.
