As a College Recruit

Highly productive, big-framed defensive lineman who could play a number of spots along the front. Measured at 6-foot-3.5, 265 pounds with a 33.75-inch arm prior to his senior season. Has been a dominant, highly productive defensive lineman on Friday nights dating back to his sophomore season. Tallied 30 sacks over his final two seasons at Gardendale High. Frequently in opposing backfields, using his quickness and overall athleticism to make plays behind the line. A fluid mover who closes quickly behind the line of scrimmage. Has the body of a future interior defensive lineman but the movement skills of an EDGE player. Advanced as a pass rusher relative to most other top defensive linemen. Showed flashes of dominance at both the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and the Under Armour All-America Game. Got better as the week of practice went on at Under Armour and turned in a dominant performance in the game. Can continue to improve his overall consistency and hand usage at the next level.

Kelby Collins reminds us of DeMarvin Leal due to his size, positional versatility, play style and functional athleticism. Like Leal, Collins is a big defensive end who could grow into an interior defensive lineman with time. They're both smooth movers who are more of a finesse game at the same stage.

Kelby Collins rises into top 50 of final On300

Charles Power

Collins moves into the top 50 from outside the top 100 with back-to-back impressive showings at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and the Under Armour All-American Game. The 6-foot-3.5, 265 pounder flashed some dominant tendencies while facing top offensive linemen. His highs are hard to deny.

Kelby Collins makes highlight plays at Alabama-Mississippi All-Star practices

Charles Power

Kelby Collins turned in a strong practice on Wednesday afternoon at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder often worked as a big defensive end and made plays as a pass rusher. We saw Collins lock horns with Stanton Ramil on a number of occasions with each having their moments. Collins’ flashes were among the best of the loaded Alabama defensive front. The Gardendale (Ala.) product is a smooth, coordinated athlete. He’s capable of timing up the snap and using his short area quickness to knife into the backfield. Collins’ physicality and consistency from snap to snap can continue to improve but his upside was on display in Mobile.
