Women's basketball takeaways: 12/7 edition
It was a loaded day of women’s hoops. Here are my takeaways.
1. Maryland/Minnesota takes cake for ‘Game of the Year’
We were treated to the best game of the year yesterday between Maryland and Minnesota. The Terrapins, who are dealing with plenty of injuries, struggled in the first half of this road game.
They were able to force overtime – and then double OT – and then earn the win. The fashion in which they won this game, though, is unforgettable. Maryland trailed by nine points with 1:06 left in 2OT, but went on a tear to earn the victory.
2. Kansas State upsets Ole Miss, Wisconsin upsets Michigan State
There were quite a few upsets yesterday, but these two are most notable. Ole Miss fell to unranked Kansas State and Michigan State fell to unranked Wisconsin.

Both of the ranked foes hadn’t been battle-tested too hard yet and weren’t able to earn the wins yesterday. The Rebels had just earned a comeback win over Notre Dame, but really struggled to shoot the ball yesterday, despite forcing 21 turnovers.
Michigan State really hadn’t been tested at all and the Badgers, under first-year head coach Robin Pingeton, earned their first resume win of the year.
