Arizona High School Football: How to watch Basha vs. Liberty
The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Open Division playoffs is in the semifinal phase and there’s two games remaining before next week’s state championship game. In one of the AIA semifinal matchups pit Arizona’s No. 2-3 ranked teams between Basha and Liberty on Saturday night. The winner of the contest will move on to the Open Division championship contest to face the winner of the Chandler–Hamilton game. We take a closer look at the Arizona high school football matchup between the Bears and Lions.
Bears to Watch
The Basha Bears (10-1) have consistently been one of the best teams in the state of Arizona all season long and now look to book their ticket to the AIA Open Division championship game. The only blemish on the Bears’ record this season is a 28-12 loss to Hamilton, but Basha owns some impressive wins as well. Basha defeated CIF Southern Section Division I semifinalist Orange Lutheran early in the season and versus Brophy College Preparatory.
RB Noah Roberts: One of the top 2027 four-star running backs in the country has shared time out of the backfield with Joshua Gaines and has still had a strong junior campaign. Roberts has rushed for 629 yards and eight touchdowns.
QB Broderick Vehrs: Vehrs, a North Texas commitment, has split time with junior quarterback Jake Rodgers and played really well for Basha behind center. The senior has thrown for 1,497 yards and 18 touchdowns.
OL Jake Hildebrand: The 2027 four-star lineman has paved the way for over 4,300 yards of total offense and will need to be at the top of his game against Liberty’s talented front seven defensive unit.
WR Kash Brock: Brock is one of Arizona high school football’s top wide receiver and has been a favorite target between Vehrs and Rodgers. The senior wide receiver has hauled in 49 catches for 827 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Lions to Watch
The Liberty Lions (10-1) has maintained Arizona high school football’s No. 2 ranking after they defeated
Red Mountain, 48-23, in the Open Division playoffs. The Lions only loss on the 2025 season came against Utah’s Class 6A state champion Corner Canyon, a 45-14 loss, and have been taking it out on any opponent in their path. Liberty is looking to repeat as AIA Open Division champions, but will have a lot of competition in their way if they want to do so this fall.
LB Hudson Dunn: The Minnesota three-star linebacker commit has been the top tackle for loss (17.5) and sacks (8.0) leader for the Lions this season. Dunn will play a vital role in making sure the Liberty defense can get after Basha’s quarterbacks.
