Camden County (Ga.) hires new football HC just over 48 hours after dismissal of previous coach

It didn’t take long for Camden County (Ga.) to decide on what direction they wanted to go in with their high school football program.
The school announced in a press release on Friday that they have hired former defensive coordinator Jon Lindsey as the new head football coach of the Wildcats. Lindsey had served previously under legendary head coach Jeff Herron, who won 334 games and five state championships during his time with the Wildcats.
“In our community, football is part of the local identity. Friday night lights bring people together, bridging differences and creating shared traditions that last for generations. Coach Lindsey has been a critical part of establishing our identity. His leadership is grounded in simplicity, grit, and discipline,” said Superintendent Dr. Tracolya Green via the release. “He knows what it takes to build a championship culture and will continue the proud defensive tradition that defines Wildcat football.”
“Having a head coach who knows Camden, its people, its values, and its expectations is vital during this transition,” Dr. Green continued. “Coach Lindsey’s passion for this community and his understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest classification of football in Georgia make him the right person to lead our Wildcats forward.”

Lindsey replaces Travis Roland, who the school announced on Wednesday was relieved of his duties on after finishing with one playoff appearance and a 13-8 record over the course of two seasons leading Camden County. Roland came over from Mainland (Fla.) and in three seasons compiled an overall record of 30-10, leading the Buccaneers to Florida’s Class 3S state championship over St. Augustine in 2023.
