Former NFL quarterback Quincy Carter announced back in mid-November that he had completed the Georgia High School Association’s (GHSA) certificate of completion to officially become a head football coach in the state.

Late on Monday, the former NFL’er announced that he had landed a Georgia high school football head coaching job. Carter posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he has been named the head coach at Conyers Heritage High School.

I wanna THANK my Principal Dr. Pittman and my Athletic Director Dr. Powell-Harris for believing that I was the right Coach to Lead THE HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM.

Back in 1995, Carter quarterbacked the Panthers to the GHSA’s AAAA state championship, finishing with USA Today honors and totaled 5,939 total yards and 69 touchdowns during his time at Southwest DeKalb.

After his high school playing days, Carter went on to star in Athens for the Bulldogs from 1998-2000, where the quarterback in three seasons threw for 6,447 yards and 35 scores.

Carter declared for the 2001 NFL Draft and ended up becoming a 2nd round, 53rd overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys. The signal caller would end up playing four seasons in the NFL between the Cowboys and New York Jets, completing 542 of 960 passes for 6,337 yards and 32 touchdown passes.

Carter will have his work cut out for him coaching the Patriots as they are coming off a 1-9 campaign, with the team being out-scored 365-162 this past 2025 season.
