The postseason began in the Old Line State last week, and another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Maryland high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Nov. 11.

1. St. Frances Academy Panthers

The Panthers remained on top of the Maryland high school football rankings after defeating The St. James Academy, Virginia’s top team. They’ve won eight of nine games, with their only loss coming against St. John Bosco. To highlight their dominance, St. Frances Academy surrendered only seven points in their last four games, which included three shutout victories. However, their next game remains uncertain after their scheduled game against IMG Academy was cancelled.

2. DeMatha Catholic Stags

The Stags are undefeated through nine games. While they had some close calls against Bishop McNamara and St. John’s College, they have dominated the rest of their schedule. Following their win against Gonzaga, DeMatha Catholic gears up for the postseason.

3. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers

The Cavaliers defeated Gilman in the Maryland high school football Class A state semifinals. Archbishop Spalding rushed to a 28-0 first-quarter lead, thanks largely to two rushing touchdowns from Antonio Ledbetter Jr. and two passing touchdowns from Brian Snowden Jr. The Cavaliers will face McDonogh School for the championship on November 15.

4. Good Counsel Falcons

Defeating Bishop McNamara last week improved the Falcons’ record to 6-4. It’s a nice result after losing a low-scoring game to Gonzaga the week before. DJ Hammond (96 yards, two touchdowns) and Paul Alston (95 yards, one TD) powered Good Counsel’s ground attack. Likewise, Jackson Rice and Kobe Ellis connected on a touchdown pass. On defense, Cayton Kubah Taylor had two interceptions.

5. North Point Eagles

While the Eagles forfeited seven victories this season, they have won their last three games, including their Maryland high school football Class 4A/3A regional first round victory against Arundel. North Point reversed a 12-7 halftime deficit by scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half, courtesy of three rushing TDs. The Eagles will face Great Mills in the next round on November 14.
