Whenever you can get the two best teams in South Florida high school football, you’re bound to have a classic.

No. 16 St. Thomas Aquinas was able to take the lead in the third quarter, blocking a field goal with six minutes remaining to hold on to a 27-21 win over No. 13 Chaminade-Madonna on Friday night at Brian Piccolo Stadium.

The Raiders (9-1) avenged a loss to the Lions from last year when they fell in the regular season finale, 29-22.

St. Thomas Aquinas was able to get a strong performance from running back Duke Daley, who scored two rushing touchdowns, including the game-tying score in the third quarter, knotting the game up at 21-all.

Chaminade-Madonna (8-2) had a chance to attempt to take the lead with around four minutes remaining, but with 2:03 left, fumbled the ball and turning it over to St. Thomas Aquinas, securing the win for the Raiders as they head into the Class 5A playoffs looking to win their seventh straight state championship.

It would be Oklahoma defensive end commit Daniel Norman who notched the game-sealing strip to secure the victory for St. Thomas Aquinas.
