Rush Propst leads Alabama high school football team to state title game
For the first time since 2018, Rush Propst will be leading a high school football team back into a state championship game.
One of the most polarizing figures in high school football will be back in the spotlight for a state title as Propst has guided Coosa Christian School to a thrilling 44-36 victory over Pisgah Friday night in a Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A state semifinal. 2028 four-star Kylen Johnson rushed for nearly 300 yards and found the endzone six times in the win.
Propst, who will be making his first trip back to a state championship game since leading Colquitt County (Ga.) to one in 2018, is currently the head coach for the Conquerors as he was tabbed as the Coosa Christian lead man back in August. Last time Propst had led an Alabama high school football team to the state finals was 2006 when he was at Hoover High School.
Next week on Dec. 5, Coosa Christian will face off with Lanett, a 35-19 winner over Reeltown, for Alabama high school football’s Class 2A state crown.
Propst owns a 308-119 overall record all-time as a high school head football coach with seven state championships and now will have a chance to win No. 8.
Perhaps best known for his run at Hoover (Ala.) where he won five state championships from 1999-2007, Propst has also led programs at Colquitt County, Valdosta (Ga.) and Pell City (Ala.).
