Rush Propst not opposed to Georgia high school football return
One of the most polarizing figures in high school football will be back in the spotlight for a state title as Rush Propst has guided Coosa Christian School (Ala.) to the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A state championship game after defeating Pisgah in a 44-36 state semifinal last week.
Now Coosa Christian is set to face off against Lanett on Friday afternoon for the Class 2A state title in Birmingham and that’s where Propst’s focus lies at this week. The moment the state championship game is over, however, Propst spoke on received interest to coach and hasn’t ruled out a return to coaching Georgia high school football, according to an ITG Next report. Specifically, South Georgia is a region Propst would like to take a serious look at returning to, if given the opportunity.
“I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Once this game is over, whether we win the state championship or are the 2A runner up, I’ll wrap up things with Coosa Christian, and see what my plans are,” Propst said in the report.
“My coaching juices are flowing, and I want to continue to coach. I have 2 grandchildren in South Georgia that I miss, and want to spend time with again. I feel like South Georgia is home. We lived there a long time, and had a lot of success, so if I get an opportunity to come back, I’ll take a serious look at it.”

Propst led Colquitt County (Ga.) to multiple state championships and was at Valdosta (Ga.) for the 2020 season before being dismissed.
Perhaps best known for his run at Hoover (Ala.) where he won five state championships from 1999-2007, Propst owns a 308-119 overall record all-time as a high school head football coach with seven state championships (5 at Hoover, 2 at Colquitt County) and now will have a chance to win No. 8 on Friday at 2 p.m. Central Time.
